This June, the staff of Fanjove found a great surprise waiting for them as they landed on the atoll for the preparations of the opening for the new season.
They thought they were going to be the first ones to arrive, but in fact the gorgeous green turtles arrived much before, choosing Fanjove as their cleanest spot to lay their precious eggs, where there little ones could hatch safely.
The staff soon got really busy watching, recording and caring for their nests to make sure that they do not get destroyed by the natural elements. Signs were also put up so that the arriving visitors do not step unknowingly on one of these eggs. The signs also indicate the dates of the hatching.
The staff have been trained specifically how to identify these nests and also how to move them to another safe location, in case they are found in a dangerous spot exposed to tidal waves.
